As a general rule, gastrointestinal and colonoscopies are scheduled by appointment at the doctor's office or over the phone, and then performed at a later date. However, if you have severe symptoms such as stomach pain, you may be able to undergo a gastroscopy on the same day if you come to the hospital without eating.
